Ollie the Otter Visits Deadwood, South Dakota!

After being apprehended in Sturgis, SD for trying to escape on a Harley-Davidson motorcycle, Ollie and the group decided to visit Deadwood, South Dakota.

Named for the dead trees found in its gulch, Deadwood, South Dakota is an old mining town that’s still as wild at heart as it was in the 1800s when the outlaws, gamblers and gunslingers ruled the streets.  Today, the entire Black Hills' town is a National Historic Landmark.

Barnes & Noble Deal of the Day

Famous "Wild West" legends such as "Wild Bill" Hickok, "Calamity Jane", and Seth Bullock are buried at Mount Moriah Cemetery in Deadwood.  By tradition, the American flag flies over the cemetery 24 hours a day, rather than merely from sunrise to sunset.

The Tombstone reads:

"Wild Bill, J. B. Hickock killed by the assassin Jack McCall in Deadwood, Black Hills, August 2d, 1876. Pard, we will meet again in the happy hunting ground to part no more. Good bye, Colorado Charlie, C. H. Utter."

(Charlie Utter was Hickok's great friend and companion.  When Wild Bill was murdered, Utter is the one who took care of the funeral arrangements and burial.)
