Calling All Hidden Object Game Lovers!!!

I like to play games of all different kinds.  I like card games, video games, time management games, just to name a few. 

Oops, I forgot one other genre of game that I like....Hidden Object games!!

I recently stumbled across one on Facebook called "Gardens of Time".  Well, to say that I stumbled across it isn't exactly true.  You see, a bunch of my Facebook friends had started playing the game and apparently thought that I needed to add another game to my repertoire of games that I play on Facebook (I have quite a few that I play).  I finally decided to check this game out, and I am hooked!!!



Here's a brief synopsis of the game:

As a player, you are a time traveler who hops into his/her time machine and travels to exotic scenes ripped from history, where you will stop and find hidden objects.

 But wait, there's more...

There is also a storyline that is revealed to you as you progress in the game.  You are assigned quests to help the characters in the story. 

You are also able to show off your creativeness and build your own garden with different artifacts, decorations, and "exhibits".

It pays to have a lot of friends that play this game because they can send you gifts such as decorations, energy, and hints that can be used in the game quests/hidden object scenes.

You can also visit your friends' gardens/cities and earn energy and points for visiting.

As you can see, this game is quite intriguing and can be fun, but don't take my word for it....try it!!!

Wacky Wednesday Post: Who Couldn't Use a Light Up Toilet Seat??

A few months ago, Brett and I were shopping at one of our favorite places to shop in Paducah, Kentucky. This place is called Surplus City.  Just what is Surplus City, you ask?  Well, it's a place where you’ll find great products at extremely discounted prices – usually 40% to 70% off retail.  You never know what you'll find at Surplus City and  this is what I found on one of our visits there.

That's right, readers...it's a Light Up Toilet Seat!!!

Don't Know What Ya Got 'Til It's Gone....

You don't really know what you have 'til it's gone....meaning you can't really miss something until you're without it. Allow me to explain.

Lately, I have been thinking about my grandmother (my mom's mom) who died a few years ago from complications that stemmed from a stroke. On my mom's side of the family, I am the only granddaughter, so needless to say, I was and am still a tad bit spoiled and my grandmother and I were what I would consider to be pretty close. She always made sure I had what I wanted whether or not I really needed it or not. We would do normal grandmother/granddaughter things such as canning and cooking. For some reason, she has been on my mind a lot lately (more so than usual).

A song that I used to listen to came to mind.  It's titled "Love You Out Loud" and it is by a Contemporary Christian singer/songwriter, Carolyn Arends.  I won't post the lyrics to the whole song, but I want to share the chorus with you.

I would ask you for your stories

And I would tell you mine
I would give you much more credit
I would take more of your time
There's so much I left unspoken
If you were here right now
I would love you out loud

The words of this song pretty much sum up what I would say to my grandma if she were here with me right now. I couldn't word it any better. 

 

I think we all probably have someone that means/meant a lot to us that has gone on before us and we probably wish there are things that we wish we would've done or said. I also know there are many people (at least in my life) that are still alive who mean a lot to me. I probably don't tell them enough how special they are to me, but hopefully they still know. This entry is for 1)my grandma as well as other family members who have gone on before me and 2) for the people who are still in my life that mean a lot to me.

My advice to all who reads this (it's free...take it or leave it) is this:  Let people who are special to you know that they are special to you....don't just assume that they know. They might know, but it still means a lot to be told.

My Favorite Android App of the Moment: Words With Friends

I love to play games and just a few days ago, I found one that I can play on my phone called "Words With Friends". It's pretty much just like "Scrabble", but you play it on your phone with people that you may or may not know.

One person makes a word with the letters that they're dealt and then it's the other player's turn.  It's a lot of fun, but the downside is that sometimes it can take a long time for your opponent to take their turn.

I'm pretty good with playing "Scrabble" on Pogo.com, but when I've played with some of my friends on Facebook, I've ended up getting beat!  That's o.k though, because I've gotten better in the last couple of days and have actually won a few games.

To get started, you just have to download the app from the Android Market.  It's free, which makes it even more fun!  You then set up a player name and let your friends know what it is so that they can find you to play with.  You can play with people by using their user name or you can request a random opponent.

You can also play a game with a person that you're standing next to on your phone.  This type of game is called a "Pass and Play" game.  You make your word, then press enter and hand the phone off to your opponent and they take their turn.

This game is available for download on smartphones such as the iPhone and Android operating systems that I know of.

It's the End of the World As We Know It...

So as I'm typing this entry, it is 6:11 CST.  At 6pm, the rapture (an English word that means "snatched up" or "caught up") was to take place.  It obviously didn't, because I am able to type this blog entry.  Here's some information that I've found interesting and wanted to share. 

Please don't think that I'm trying to push the Bible in your face, because I'm not.  I'm just wanting to put some facts out there for people to see.

• According to 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 in the Bible, this is what will happen when the rapture takes place:  "For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God.  And the dead in Christ will rise first.  Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air.  And thus we shall always be with the Lord." 

I didn't hear a shout, let alone a trumpet, and I'm pretty sure that I have pretty good hearing!

Here is what God tells us in the Bible regarding when he will return:

• “But of that day and hour NO ONE knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only." Matthew 24:36

Why would God choose to tell Harold Camping when He was planning to come back?  Don't you think if he DID tell anyone, it would be someone with more Biblical sense like Billy Graham or The Pope?  Of course, he's not going to tell them, though, because as I just showed you, NO ONE knows when the return will be!

So now, here's some information on the guy who is behind all of this uproar, Harold Camping.

• Harold Camping, an American Christian  radio broadcaster and president of Family-Radio,  a California-based radio station that spans more than 150 markets in the United States, predicted that that the rapture would take place on May 21, 2011 at 6 p.m. local time everywhere, and also that the end of the world would take place five months later on October 21, 2011.

• Camping believes that people not saved will simply cease to exist, rather than spend eternity in hell, as others who predict the Rapture say. Those who were "unsaved" and died prior to May 21 would not be affected by the Rapture or the end of the world.

• Followers of Harold Camping continue to listen to Camping despite the fact that he was wrong in his previous prediction of the end of the world. In his book 1994?, he claimed there was a very high likelihood that the world would end in September, 1994, although he did acknowledge in the book "the possibility does exist that I could be wrong."

In my opinion, Harold Camping just wants some attention and likes to have his "15 minutes of fame" every now and then.

I feel sorry for the people who believe what he says and get caught up in what he "teaches".

My thoughts on this whole thing (and yes, some are "tongue in cheek" thoughts:

• I wonder how many people left work yesterday and told their bosses to "take this job and shove it" or something like that, because since they believed that the world was ending today, they wouldn't be returning to work on Monday.  They'll have a lot of explaining or kissing up to the boss on Monday, that's for sure!

• How many people ate tons of food before 6pm because it could very well be their last meal?  I'll bet they're looking for some Tums, Rolaids, or Pepto Bismol right about now.

• I was never really worried about the world ending today, but I do believe that the day will be coming sometime in the future. Yes, I realize that's a blanket statement. ;)

Charles M. Shultz, the American cartoonist who brought us Charlie Brown comics said it best when he said this, Don't worry about the world ending today. It's already tomorrow in Australia. 

In closing, my advice to you is this (and you can take it or leave it):  Live each day to its fullest.  Tell everyone that you care about that you love them today, because you might not see them tomorrow, and live your life without regrets, because you don't always get a "do over" in life!

A Funny Friday Post...I Love Chicken Poop!!!

So the other night I'm looking through a friend's pictures on Facebook, and I come across a picture that just made me laugh so hard.

Here it is....

I was intrigued, so I immediately went to searching for a website or something so that I could see just exactly what this product is.

Do You Go For Pogo? Pogo.com That Is!

Back in 2004, I was unable to work and found myself getting bored of just watching TV or reading.  Brett told me that I should try finding games online and suggested a site to me.  That site is www.pogo.com.  At first, I was just playing a few games, but that would soon change.

One night, I was in a game room with a bunch of people and noticed that they had neat little avatars beside their screen name.  I wanted one and asked how to go about getting one.  One person told me that in order to get these neat little pictures to appear beside your name, you had to join Pogo's "club" known appropriately as "Club Pogo".  Not really knowing what the club consisted of, I was hesitant to pay money to join the site.  The person that told me about Club Pogo was nice enough to give me a 3 day "free pass" to the site so that I could try it out before I made my decision. 

Once I got the "pass", I was hooked!!  This site has ever game that a gamer could want and more.

Whether you're in the mood for a card game like Gin (known as Jungle Gin) on Pogo or a word game like Scrabble (yes, Pogo has Scrabble and another similar game), you can find it on Pogo.  To add to playing the game, you can also reach different levels in the games by completing certain tasks.

Why subscribe to Club Pogo?  Well, for one, you don't have to see annoying advertisements.  You can also earn badges in different games.  These badges have some really cute avatars that can be displayed by your name.  There are also some games that are available to Club Pogo members only.  The price is $39.99 for a year (there are cheaper options for smaller amounts of time), but really with all of the game that the site has (and they're always adding new games), it's worth it.  I even got my mom hooked on playing games on the site.

I Got Some Samples in the Mail Today! Yay!

So, today when I went through the mail, I had some mail that wasn't the everyday bills and junk mail.  I had SAMPLES!!!

In the above picture, you see the following samples:

• Jiffy Recipe Book: I got this by going to Jiffy's Facebook page and simply entering my mailing information.

•  Sample Pack of Two (2) Breathe Right Nasal Strips: I got this item by entering my information on their Facebook page as well.

• Two Sample Packets of Miracle Whip:  I received these because I saw on a blog that I follow that Miracle Whip was giving a limited number of these sample away.  I was given a link on that blog and just had to enter my mailing information.

• Coupon for a FREE Five (5) Count pack of Zyrtec:  I received this by going to Zyrtec's Facebook page and entering my mailing information.

I'm still awaiting quite a few other samples in the mail and when I receive them, I'll be sure to post a picture of them here.

As you can see, it's not difficult to receive free samples.  A lot of samples can be received by just entering the product name in a Facebook Search and if that item has a page, chances are they are giving away samples of an item or a coupon to get the item cheap.  One can receive other samples just by searching "Free Samples" or something to that effect in your browser and see what all there is.  I've found that there are quite a few "Free Sample" websites where all you have to do is enter some minimal information to start receiving samples of all kinds. Usually with the samples are coupons to get the full size item at a pretty cheap price.

The evacuation of Metropolis Nursing and Rehab Nursing Home Metropolis IL

The evacuation of Metropolis Nursing and Rehab Nursing Home Metropolis IL due to the flooding of the Ohio River.

On the morning of Monday, May 2, 2011, I was watching TV just like I do pretty much every other day. However, on this day, my TV watching was cut short by a knock at the door of my room at Metropolis Nursing & Rehab Center in Metropolis, Illinois. I've been staying there since October 18, 2009 due to my arthritis and impending surgeries.

The person on the other side of the door came in when I acknowledged them. It was Lori Abbott, the activities director and she said that she needed to talk to me. She proceeded to tell me that because of the rising flood waters, the facility was evacuating the residents and that some residents would be going as far as 4 hours north to a “sister facility”. The rest of the day's happenings are kind of a blur, because it happened so fast.

While plans had been in the works for me to return home, we didn't have the equipment there yet. Also, our house doesn't sit too far from the river and we were afraid that I'd be stranded in the house, should the waters get to the house. I immediately called Brett and told him what was going on and he and I thought it would be a good idea to try to get into the facility that my grandfather is living in, located in Marion, Illinois. This facility was already booked because of people being evacuated elsewhere though. My next choice was a facility in Herrin, Illinois so that I would be close to my dad. At first, I thought this was a good idea, but then I got to thinking about the likelihood of my dad coming to see me every day. The likelihood was pretty slim and therefore, wouldn't really know anyone. I finally was able to go to a facility in Effingham, Illinois called Lakeland Nursing Center. This facility is located about 2-1/2 to 3 hours north of Metropolis, and is a “sister facility” to ours and had quite a few residents from MNRC already being relocated to here. Plus, some of the staff was sent along to help with the care of the residents. I thought this was a major plus, because I would be around people that I knew.

All day on Monday, our facility was in a chaotic state with families coming in to take some residents home for what the Administration was saying would only be two to three days and with other residents being put in buses to head to other facilities. Medicines had to be gathered up for each and every resident and clothes and other belongings had to be packed for the resident to take along with them. It was just crazy!

S.M.A.R.T. (Southern Most Area Rural Transit) buses started coming to transport residents at about 4pm and the last one didn't depart the facility until almost 12am on Tuesday. I know this, because I was on that bus. I was a nervous wreck, because I was leaving familiar territory and heading hours from my family, unsure of when I was going to return. I was (and still am) quite proud of myself at how I was able to keep myself halfway calm. Other residents were not that way and who could blame them? Some were being taken from the only place they call “home” and taken to a strange place. The ride on the bus was a quiet one and the driver of the bus was fun and kept things calm for us passengers.

We arrived at our destination at approximately 3:30am and were greeted by all sorts of staff from Lakeland Nursing Center. They had already received some residents from earlier buses and were anxious to help us with our belongings and to help us get settled in to a bed to finally get some sleep.
