Ollie the Otter -- Ollie's Trip to a Mining Museum in the Black Hills of South Dakota!

Who knew there was so much to see in South Dakota?  Ollie sure didn't, but he's glad that he's gotten to see everything that he's seen so far.

Today, we find Ollie and his traveling companions at a mining museum in Lead,  South Dakota.

The museum features a simulated underground level of the Homestake Gold Mine – the only comprehensive look at both early-day and modern underground mining to be found in the Black Hills. This exhibit was created by over 140 miners and former mine employees and traces the history of mining at Homestake from 1876 to the 1970s.  Reaching a depth of 8,000 feet below the surface of the city of Lead, the Homestake mine was one of the largest in the world.  It ceased operation in 2001.
